Oasis
The desert air chews my lungs and the arid dust steals my breath
The heat is violence, silence is pain, but this thirst shall be my death
I’ve writhed and climbed across many dunes chasing the illusion of some dew
I’ve reached out my hands and cursed the gods, met with mirages of rivers blue
Deserved, no, earned, has been pure mistrust and fear
When my feet arrive at waters that are sparkling, blue, and clear
I kneel down to drink from the water, so I can taste if it’s really true
But the cold drink that embraces my lips is from the healing kiss of you
